INNO-GENE announced that Hydrogenium PSA has filed a patent application with the Patent Office regarding the technology and installation for the production of green hydrogen through plasma gasification of biomass. Hydrogenium will become a subsidiary of INNO-GENE thanks to a recently signed investment agreement.

The INNO-GENE Management Board informed in a current report that Hydrogenium PSA has filed a patent application with the Polish Patent Office. Hydrogenium’s application concerns the grant of a patent for the invention: “Method of plasma gasification of solid material containing carbon and device for plasma gasification of solid material containing carbon” The application was assigned the number: P.449656 [WIPO ST 10/C PL449656]. The patent application was accompanied by 27 patent claims covering both the technology and the construction of the plasma reactor, and the applicant is the company HYDROGENIUM Prosta S.A.

The company now has 12 months to select the target countries in which it will seek patent protection, as part of the PCT procedure. The PCT system allows for seeking patent protection for an invention simultaneously in many countries by filing a single “international” patent application instead of filing several separate national or regional patent applications. The PCT system covers over 156 countries.

“I am extremely proud of this achievement. Securing the rights to our innovation is a milestone for Hydrogenium and the entire capital group. This allows us to move on to the next stage – the internationalization of our invention,” says Maciej Ganczarski, Managing Partner of the company. “We are already in preliminary discussions with foreign partners who have expressed interest in our technology. Filing the patent application is just the beginning – our goal is to commercialize it on a global scale.”

The filing of the patent application by Hydrogenium PSA is one of the key obligations resulting from the Investment Agreement concluded between Inno-Gene and Hydrogenium.

“The technology developed by Hydrogenium P.S.A. has the potential to significantly impact the development of the energy industry, offering more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions that can be applied in various industrial sectors. Securing patent rights not only protects the company from unfair competition, but also accelerates cooperation with international partners and investors interested in jointly developing this innovative technology,” said Jacek Wojciechowicz, President of INNO-GENE S.A. “In the coming months, the company plans to intensify its efforts to implement its invention on a global scale.”

Hydrogenium Prosta S.A. owns the rights to the technology of biomass gasification in a plasma environment. The developed technology enables very efficient conversion of carbon (at very high temperature and under high voltage) contained in biomass into synthesis gas, which can be used for the production of green hydrogen and then e-methanol.

Plasma pyrolysis technology offers the possibility of large-scale production of low-emission hydrogen, which creates opportunities for significant savings for municipal companies and enterprises operating in the heavy industry, chemical and maritime transport sectors. The energy supplied from the outside is transformed into ionized plasma in the oxygen-steam reactor, leading to a significant reduction in hydrogen production costs. Compared to methods based on electrolyzers, this technology requires much less energy input. The innovative solution enables the rapid conversion of various types of biomass into clean synthesis gas, free of tar, with a high hydrogen content (over 50%) and carbon monoxide (over 30%). The breakthrough technology allows for economical and mass production of hydrogen from a wide range of different types of biomass or waste (including toxic waste such as “red water” generated during TNT production). The produced synthesis gas can be converted into methanol or other e-fuels or used in the production of green feedstock for the chemical industry, which increases the versatility of the innovative technology.

Experimental research has shown the high efficiency of the obtained hydrogen in the biomass gasification process, reaching 1-2 Euro cost of production per kilogram of hydrogen produced. The company is currently creating its own demonstration line, the launch of which is planned for the 1st quarter of 2025 on the premises of its own research center.
